When Abby was born she was diagnosed with transposition of the great arteries. She had open heart surgery to correct the problem immediately after birth. Unfortunately at twenty months old, she was diagnosed with heart failure and was put on a heart transplant list.
Abby's heart became very weak and she needed a 24/7 infusion of Milrinone. With home infusion, she was able to go home to bond with her newborn brother and be with her parents. At home, she thrived - she regained her strength and lived like any toddler while waiting for a heart.
Abby received a heart transplant at the Mayo Clinic and was weaned off of her heart medications. Abby continues to grow and inspire all those around her with her story.
